LUCY CHARLES-BARCLAY

Professional Triathlete

Ironman World Champion 2023
Ironman 70.3 World Champion 2021

Lucy Charles-Barclay is the one of the biggest names in Triathlon. She is the 2023 IRONMAN World Champion, 2022 ITU Long Distance World Champion & 2021 IRONMAN 70.3 World Champion. With 4 runner up finished before taking the win in Kona, she knows a thing or two about perseverence and the mindset required to keep chasing a dream.

Her sporting career, however, started out in the world of swimming. She was previously a member of the British Swimming open water squad and went on to compete at the 2012 olympic trials. Spending much of her life growing up in the pool has given her the upper hand in triathlon to use this swim to her advantage. She now holds the swim course record at many renowned races including Kona, Hawaii.

With Lucy as your coach you’ll gain experience and knowledge of swim training, how to apply this to the open water, and the important strategies needed on race day. If you’re looking to improve your stroke and be 1st out of the water, the feedback Lucy can provide will be invaluable.

Lucy believes that to be a well-rounded performer in Triathlon it is important to look after every discipline with equal focus. In addition to the training; recovery, nutrition, equipment and body conditioning are key. Her comeback from a nearly career-ending injury in 2022 is a testament to her patience and strategic thinking. With this experience behind her she is very conscious of creating training programmes with health and recovery in mind - to make sure that her clients are training smart and preventing injury.

Lucy’s passion for coaching stemmed from a young age when she volunteered at her local swimming club and was an area ambassador for the sport. At just 16 years of age, she was already running sports motivation seminars in local primary schools. “I enjoyed coaching from a very young age, my Dad was a volunteer at my local swimming club, so I spent much time on poolside with him helping to coach the younger swimmers.”
This passion materialised into a full-time profession when she turned 18 and started a personal training company with Reece. It was after this that the pair discovered Ironman triathlon and eventually became full-time professional athletes and coaches.
